'OSHA is AWOL': Critics say federal agency is where workplace COVID-19 complaints go to die
Article posted in the Miami Herald is a scathing article about the lack of performance for OSHA during the pandemic. Unfortunately it is true. OSHA's excuse is that they lack the regulatory authority or lack a standard to cite. That's an internal talking point.
Truth is the agency OSHA has gone the way of the USPS and the Veterans Administration. They allow the union to dictate policy. If that is not bad enough, when the pandemic 1st broke the agency lacked PPE stock piles. Yes, believe it or not OSHA the ultimate authority on employee safety and health did not have the simple supplies of PPE to respond to the crisis. They lacked N-95 mask, they lacked the gloves, they even lacked the soap and water to wash hands. Even more embarrassing they lacked the decision making power to get out and get the supplies.

The agency is controlled by the AFGE, internal leadership does not partner with the union they are subordinate to union officials. When the pandemic broke the union did what ever they could to prevent compliance officer from going out into the field to enforce the law. OSHA was the only law enforcement agency that cowered in the bedrooms while America worked. As an agency they can do better, they have to do better, its their job!
Today as I write this the Agency is conducting inspections. But they are conducting them from the safety of the homes. Its an unbelievable way to conduct an investigation into accident, injury or complaint.
Internally the dedicated hard working compliance officers are frustrated and moral is at an all time low. They are out numbered by the maligners running the union and the leadership not willing to stand up to the union.
